Maxim Emelyanychev was born in Nizhny Novgorod in 1988 and studied conducting with Gennady Rozhdestvensky in Moscow, alongside training as a harpsichord and fortepianist – he works regularly with Il Pomo d’Oro in both capacities, and his discography with the group includes Joyce DiDonato’s multi-award-winning In War and Peace: Harmony Through Music (2016) on Erato, Arie Napoletane with Max Cencic (2015) on Decca, Anima Sacra with Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński (2018) on Erato, and Handel’s Serse (with Franco Fagioli in the title-role) on Deutsche Grammophon. He has also recorded Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony with the Nizhny Novgorod Soloists, and an album of Mozart piano sonatas, both released in 2018 on Aparté.
