Hertel’s instrumental concertos are less widely known than other areas of his musical output, but several bassoon concertos survive, including the present Concerto in E-flat, one of a group of three. This new edition supersedes the 1997 Phylloscopus edition, which was prepared from the original manuscript by C. M. M. and F. H. Nex. The continuo keyboard part and the piano reduction were realised from the figured bass by Lance Whitehead. The concerto is scored for solo bassoon with either piano accompaniment, or chamber ensemble/orchestra.
