About
HYPERSENSE, for solo instrument and piano, is a work by Yvan Lagger inspired by the inner world of highly sensitive individuals. Through expressive and contrasting writing, the composer seeks to convey in music the emmotional rollercoaster that such people experience on a daily basis. The piece unfolds as a series of expressive scenes, reflecting sudden mood swings and the intensity of feelings. One can perceive in turn sadness, exuberance, melancholy, or even an almost burlesque humour, as so many faces of heightened sensitivity. Each section explores a different facet of emotion, sometimes in excess, sometimes with delicacy. The musical langage, at times dense and intense, at times sparse and fragile, highlights these rapid and often unpredictable transitions. The end of the piece gradually calms, as if returning to centre, with writing influenced by the minimalist movement, in the style of Arvo Pärt. The regained calm is not the absence of emotion, but a form of serenity, almost meditative. HYPERSENSE is an intimate plunge into the turmoil of the soul, a sonic mirror of emotional complexity.
