About
I have always loved music from the Medieval and Renaissance eras, having first seen The Early Music Consort of London with its charismatic director David Munrow, at a public concert in Manchester, way back in 1973.
Consequently, this work is an arrangement of 16th century dances from Europe, collected and arranged by the likes of Claude Gervaise, Tielman Susato and Michael Praetorius. I aimed to create a tuneful and foot-tapping sequence of dances, rarely changing the melody and harmony, as I wished to preserve the charm and piquancy of the originals, taking David Munrow’s approach to instrumentation, with its contrasts of strings, woodwind and brass. This work would make an ideal concert item for amateur orchestras in particular.
