About
Glory Streams was composed for a concert that took place at Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh in 2009 to mark the 50th and 75th birthdays of James MacMillan and Peter Maxwell Davies – each composer was present at the concert, a wonderful evening, and a cherished memory.
The harmonic and melodic core of Glory Streams is derived from the musical grammars of a Paschal Gloria plainchant by way of Markovian algorithms within the OpenMusic environment. Its textures and gestures attempt to invite contemplative gratitude.
It is dedicated as a gift to my daughter Dora, who is beatific in every sense.
The pianist Lauryna Sableviciute and the Edinburgh Quartet gave the work its premiere performance in 2009.
