Advanced. VANTAGE was written in 2018 at the request of Christian Jones. The title of the work takes inspiration from one of the elements of the composition, the position and harmonic association of the same note in different chords. I find the journey a note can go on within the harmony of a piece or a melodic line to be very interesting, and full of extra-musical associations. The Bass Trombone of course steers the line in this journey, but the voyage is shared between the two instruments and the different vantage points are both full of consonance and dissonance for the pair.
