Advanced. "Line Up" uses ideas drawn from a variety of sources. The title and the idea for the spatial effects comes from the dance "Line Up" by Trisha Brown. The second section was inspired by the music of Phil Niblock, David Behrman, and Meredith Monk. The yodel-like ostinato in the third section was inspired by a recording of Ba-Benzele Pygmy music. And the metric modulation near the end of the piece is patterned on the Cream's recording of "Spoonful" on the album "Wheels of Fire."
