Concerto for Organ, String Orchestra, and Trumpets (Op.111) was commissioned by the London Choral Sinfonia, and its Director, Michael Waldron. The idea for the work came about as a result of a suggestion that the composer combine in a single work two of the genres in which he had been most successful hitherto: string ensemble and solo organ.
