The String Trio opens with?Allegro grazioso e amabile, a movement built loosely on Classical sonata form and one of a refreshing gracefulness. Next comes a slithery, scurrying?Presto Scherzo?and?Trio?before the?Finale, initially mysterious and coolly analytical but growing into a flowing, somewhat Sibelian movement which culminates in a dance-like section in 9/8 time. The String Trio was given its premiere in 2018 by Caroline Balding (violin), Rose Redgrave (viola) and Clare O?Connell (cello) at King?s College, London.
