String Quartet No. 4 is in three movements ? two short ones followed by a longer, weightier third entitled ?In memoriam?. Several people whom Keeley cared about died during the composition of the work and Keeley himself was seriously unwell at the time, but he hopes??that the ultimate impression of the music is positive and life-enhancing, especially given the truism that the composers? own emotional or physical state need not be reflected in the music itself.?
