About
Concerto for Guitar and String Orchestra was composed in the summer and autumn of 1993. It was commissioned by the Brighton and Hove Philharmonic Society with funding from British Gas and South - East Arts. The piece, which should be performed without breaks falls into three main sections linked by solo guitar cadenzas, which are intended to be developmental in nature and function. The first performance was given on the 11th February 1994 at Hove Town Hall with Richard Durrant (soloist) and the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Paul Murphy. Minor revisions were made in the summer and autumn of 2013.
