About
Unequal Division is a short study for solo bassoon employing microtonal harmonies and multiphonics. A fanfare is alternated with more rhapsodic material: as the opening interval of the fanfare is further subdivided, the rhapsodic narrow figure is gradually augmented. The fanfare becomes increasingly wild, transforming into tremoli and multiphonic trills.
The work was commissioned by the Royal Academy of Music in celebration of its two hundredth anniversary and is dedicated to Roberta Santos Bone who gave the world premi?re.
