'I wrote Naive Waltz in the early 90s for a dance piece called "Zeche 2" in Bochum, Germany. It was one of a few waltzes in that production and the only one to survive the passing of time,' says Elena Kats-Chernin. Shortly afterwards, the composer herself arranged the original piano solo version for string quartet; this is the form in which the musically restrained piece is included on the Acacia Quartet's complete recording of her music for this instrumentation.
