This publication includes a ‘Chaconne' for solo cello, which explores aspects of the earlier 20th-century technique of serialism. It also contains 'A Bassoon Melody for Jane Rosina', which has a clearer tonal centre, and is a freely chromatic binary-form movement with written-out decorated repeats and short coda. Being written at different times and for different instruments, the two works were not planned as companions in performance. Nevertheless, as it happens each one can with little adjustment be played on the other instrument.
