Ramírez composed the mass in 1963 and 1964. Together with Navidad Nuestra, it is regarded as his best-known composition and is considered the most important work of Argentinian sacred music far beyond the borders of Südamera due to its popularity. In Latin America, it is one of the most popular works of Christian music, which is also very popular with lay choirs. It is considered an example of the inculturation of Christianity in Südamerica.
