Looking at the cover photo of keyboardist Joanne Kong's recording of the Goldberg Variations, Colgrass was inspired to write a short concerto for one player on two keyboards, sometimes simultaneously. Along with a harpsichord, a piano is prepared ( la John Cage) with rubber stops, bobby pins, bolts and washers. A 13' sample audio track is available at Colgrass' website.
