Each year the Cypress String Quartet selects two works from the standard quartet repertoire and commissions a third work based on inspiration derived from two older works. String Quartet No. 4 was written as a commission from this unique "call and response" program, and the piece specifically responds to Mozart's Dissonant Quartet and Beethoven's Quartet Opus 59, No. 3.
