A re-scoring, by the composer, for piano 2-some (duet). The Widow’s Party uses text from Rudyard Kipling’s Barrack-Room Ballads. The ‘Widow’ of the title refers to ‘The Widow of Windsor’ (Queen Victoria) and the ‘Party’ refers to one of the many small frontier wars in India. Grainger wrote several settings of this work - for men's chorus and military band (or orchestra), for men's chorus and piano 2-some (duet), and this instrumental version for piano 2-some (duet).
