As in my earlier Miniature String Quartets the objective has been to write music that stems from the kinds of passage-work that will be familiar to players of an intermediate technical standard. This quartet may perhaps be a little more demanding than the earlier ones, but nonetheless should allow for intense listening to matters of ensemble and expressive playing. (David Stone)
