''Oberek'' - the oldest of my works performed up to date - was composed in 1955 during my studies at the Vilnius Conservatory. Originally it was scored for symphony orchestra, forming the last part of the ''Three Sketches for Strings'' performed - incidentally - the same year, 1955. Many years later I decided to retain just the ''Oberek'', arranging it for violin and piano, while preserving its orchestral version at the same time. [R. Twardowski]
