Ludwig Milde (1849-1913) studied bassoon, music theory and composition at the Prague Conservatory. He later worked as a solo bassoonist and teacher in his hometown. Through his works and etudes, he is considered the main representative of the Prague bassoon school. The present three studies for bassoon and piano represent effective practice and performance pieces. The common element of the popular small collection is the calm tempo and the cantabile style of the solo instrument, which gradually develops into a dialogue with the piano accompaniment.
