Inspired by 1930s harpist Carlos Salzedo, a member of the small group of modernists who surrounded Varese and Ives. Salzedo's unusual developments in harp technique are explored throughout Mosaic, a work comprised of many short mosaic-like sections. Instrumentation: flute (doubling alto flute and piccolo), oboe (doubling English horn), clarinet in B-flat (doubling bass clarinet), harp, violin, viola, cello, double bass. Commissioned by the Nash Ensemble for its 40th anniversary season. Duration: 12 minutes.
