Leon Kirchner’s highly original song cycle for Soprano Voice and Piano, The Twilight Stood consists of 6 songs based on 6 poems by Emily Dickinson: The Auctioneer, He ScannedIt,The Cricket Sang, Partake as Doth the Bee, Much Madness and There Came a Wind. The cycle is 13 minutes of pure Kirchner very chromatic, linear and frequently featuringirregularrhythms creating a truly unique, haunting atmosphere. Intended for advanced (Grade 8+) soloists, this piece is extremely challenging but rewarding at the same time.

Leon Kirchner was an American composerofcontemporary classical music. Kirchner's musical style is generally linear, chromatic, rhapsodic and rhythmically irregular; it is influenced by Schoenberg but does not employ the twelve-tone technique.
