Lute
The Lute is a plucked stringed instrument which was most popular in the 16th and 17th Centuries. The lute typically has six courses of strings and is played with the fingers. Popular composers of lute music include John Dowland, J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Daniel Bacheler, Anthony Holborne, and John Johnson. Famous lutenists include Julian Bream, Walter Gerwig, Nigel North, Paul O’Dette and Hopkinson Smith.
