Opera
Opera originated in Italy at the end of the 16th Century. A type of theatre involving classical singing, often opera includes solo singers, choral singers, orchestras/instrumentalists, dancers, and actors. Famous opera composers include Vincenzo Bellini, Georges Bizet, Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi, Arthur Sullivan, Richard Strauss, Johann Strauss, Henry Purcell, W.A. Mozart, Giacomo Puccini, Jacques Offenbach, and Claudio Monteverdi. Some of the most popular opera singers include Maria Callas, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Joan Sutherland.
