About

Where ELEkTRO was primarily experimental and moved in the avant-garde and free jazz genre, Uto Kifa is oriented towards compositions in harmonic patterns, but still with room for the searching and open in the improvisational sections. Musically, there is an outlook towards both the international and the Nordic with a consistent warm melancholy in composition, expression and sound.

The melodic material is built up of simple motifs and themes in a fixed harmonic structure, but often with a formal and rhythmic shift that challenges the otherwise recognizable idiom of jazz. Rhythmically, the music is carried by a secure groove that takes the listener by the hand on a journey into the unknown.

The six musicians in Uto Kifa are all experienced hikers in the vast and hilly landscapes of rhythmic music. Each one brings their own backpack, their own tone, and there, in the dance of shadows from the glowing campfire, the magical stories arise.

The stories are written by bassist Lars Winberg and are eminently told by the group's members.
