Sál is the debut album by the Poulsen Brothers in collaboration with Óskar Guðjónsson. For centuries life on these distant, volcanic islands has been characterized by a certain spiritual dimension, and the title Sál refers to this awareness of the soul in every human being. As such the nine tracks on the album are typically melancholic yet laced with an optimistic undercurrent. The recording session took place on 6 August 2025 at the historical Tórshavn Theatre, with the old wooden structure shaping the sound, and thus becoming in essence a fifth band-member.

Bárður and Pauli Poulsen grew up in a musical family on the Faroe Islands, and having moved to different parts of the world to study music they found a way of reconnecting by forming a trio with drummer Rógvi á Rógvu. Their sound palette was expanded in 2024 by inviting Icelandic saxophone luminary Óskar Guðjónsson to join them on tour. Guðjónsson’s lyrical sensibilities immediately meshed with the group’s aesthetic which had developed over the years. “Sál” is the documentation of this spontaneous, chemical reaction.
