About

This debut album by a group of young Italian prodigies, playfully calling themselves a "sextet" (six-piece band) when in reality a quartet (four-piece band), features original compositions by all members of a tenor saxophone, guitar, bass, and drums lineup. Their meticulous interplay, free from ego, and the fresh breath of Italian modern jazz make them a band to watch.

Sextet Quartet is a promising jazz group formed in 2023. Composed of four friends who studied jazz at the Arrigo Pedrollo Conservatory in Vicenza, Italy, they have gained experience on numerous stages, including the "Umbria Jazz Contest," and are a talented group that won the jazz category of the "Italian National Arts Prize (Premio Nazionale delle Arti)" in November 2025.

"What It Became" is their signature album of original songs. While showcasing a playful and unconventional approach, it is underpinned by an extremely serious and mature musicality. Rather than displaying individual technique, they prioritize the group's sound and interplay, developing an ensemble that transcends classroom learning, with a lyrical feel, abrasive sounds, fluid rhythms, restrained dissonances, and at times, edgy grooves.
