About

"Rosa, the voice of a people" is a sound portrait in the form of a staged "Hörspiel "*, paying tribute to the Sicilian artist and woman Rosa Balistreri. Her husky, intense, melancholy voice and strong personality make her one of the key figures of twentieth-century Italian culture. Her voice embodies the pain, hardship and love of a southern woman at a time when women were relegated to the home, with no possibility of emancipation.

A "sonic and visual thread" follows the singer's life and career, in an auditory immersion through the sound of places, the voices of people, sound writing and the interpretation of songs.

New Folk creates lively, contemporary music based on traditional roots. Through Sicilian folk songs and melodies, taken from Rosa Balistreri?s repertoire, New Folk identifies with this vocal matrix as identity and cultural heritage.
