About
Pianist Vince Guaraldi and Brazilian guitarist Bola Sete first met during a stay at the Club Trois Couleurs in San Francisco—a fateful encounter that launched a fruitful creative partnership, eventually blending West Coast jazz with bossa nova and Afro-Brazilian rhythms. Recorded in 1964, the album "From All Sides" was the duo's second collaboration (out of three) and is considered one of their most relaxed and joyful works.
Effortless and escapist, the album glides from a feather-light rendition of "The Girl from Ipanema" to the spirited gallop of "Ballad of Poncho Villa." While Guaraldi is best known for his timeless Peanuts soundtracks, longtime listeners will recognize melodic threads here that would later reappear in that beloved universe. Adaptations of the wistful "Menino Pequeno da Bateria" (later reworked as "Little Drummer Boy") and the lighthearted "Choro" subsequently appeared on "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (1965) and "He's Your Dog, Charlie Brown" (1968), respectively.
This reissue of the album is part of the Original Jazz Classics Series, released on 180-gram vinyl pressed by RTI, with full analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and a tip-on sleeve faithfully reproducing the original artwork.
