About

Two Grammy-winning artists, saxophonist Tim Garland and pianist Geoffrey Keezer, reunite with Mezzo, a striking new duet album that captures the full intensity of their 25-year musical partnership.

Celebrated by peers for its deep communication, the album has already drawn praise from jazz icons Gary Burton and Joe Lovano, who highlight the duo's rare unity, breathtaking interplay and fearless creativity.

Recorded in New York in a single five-hour session, Mezzo distils decades of shared experience into a set that moves effortlessly between lyricism, rhythmic fire and bold re-imagining. The project also marks Garland's first release without tenor saxophone. Instead, he showcases the rare mezzo-soprano sax, an instrument with only twenty existing models worldwide. Its distinctive tone shapes much of the album, from the intimate A Prayer At Winter to the glowing folk colours of The Waves Between, inspired by a painting from Garland's partner Esra Kizir Gokcen.

Keezer contributes works by Mulgrew Miller and Erik Satie alongside original pieces, while also bringing new harmonic life to Cole Porter's Every Time We Say Goodbye , captured in a single unrehearsed take. The album features a bold new interpretation of Chick Corea's La Fiesta , praised by Gary Burton as "fresh, intriguing, and totally different... a version on a plane of its own genius."

Drawing on classical influences, world textures and the spontaneity that defined their earlier Storms / Nocturnes collaborations, Garland and Keezer offer a duo recording of remarkable clarity, trust and invention. Mezzo stands as a powerful testament to what can happen when two master musicians meet with total freedom and shared purpose.
