Edling follows 2023’s Bananasugarfire with Shooting Star, a sprawling, collaborative album shaped by creative uncertainty and bursts of instinct. Moving away from a solitary songwriting process, Edling embraced openness—even as personal challenges made withdrawal tempting. He documented the unpredictable ways songs arrived, constantly questioning whether inspiration came like water slowly heating or a lightning bolt from nowhere.

Shooting Star is, in Edling’s words, “songs about writing songs”—a self-aware journey through artistic doubt, playful eccentricity, and fleeting breakthroughs. Influences range from mid-century folk outsiders like Michael Hurley and Karen Dalton to the off-kilter charm of Yo La Tengo and Stereolab. No two tracks share the same origin, with recordings emerging from a patchwork of collaborative sessions across various spaces before being woven together by mix engineer Matthew Schimelfenig.

The result is a vivid, shapeshifting record that finds joy in process, tension in self-reflection, and momentum in the messy, unpredictable nature of creativity.
