About

Limited edition, 180g green coloured vinyl pressing of the complete album + 2 bonus tracks. Contains new specially prepared liner notes by Penguin Guide to Jazz's writer Brian Morton and by Paris' prestigious Jazz Magazine.

Inspired by a trip to the Mexican city of Tijuana, 'Tijuana Moods' was recorded in 1957 but held on the shelves by RCA until its release in 1962. Bassist/composer Charles Mingus at the time said that this was his greatest recording, and it certainly ranks near the top. Mingus himself proclaimed on the back cover that that was "the best record I ever made", having already recorded important albums such as 'Mingus Ah Um' and 'Mingus Dynasty' among others. The level of performance and composition on Tijuana are clearly exceptional.
