About

Gravitations reimagines the gravitational pull of classical music – not through arrangement or adaptation, but through Haggai's radical new compositions, which vastly depart from the original works of Mahler, Verdi, and Debussy. Created as part of a three-part concert series, Gravitations reflects the composer's engagement with the classical repertoire, reinterpreted through a dynamic fusion of jazz, improvisation, and spoken word. Describing his creative approach, Haggai likens it to space travel. “I feel like a spaceship drawn to the moon – the classical work – and then accelerating past it, navigating with counter-force to explore new worlds beyond.”

With Gravitations, he orbits the originals in a process of conversation, study, and improvisation – searching for their emotional core and transforming it into something entirely new with his collaborators. At its core, Gravitations asks: What are the great masterpieces of classical music from the last 150 years telling us, and how are their stories still relevant today?
