It's been almost five years since Mambouka emerged with 'Play At Night', and 'Please Come to Me' picks up where it left off, dilating the rhythm and intensifying the atmosphere. The first album was a chance for Mambouka to lay down their idiosyncratic blueprint, a sound that was equally as inspired by classic R&B (think Toni Braxton), as it was by sacred music and butoh, and if you think that sounds bizarre, trust us when we tell you it's far odder than that. Mambouka's driven by their interest in and deep understanding of sound therapy, and that's not where the story ends. 'Please Come to Me' isn't your common-or-garden "healing record" - the multi-ethnic, multi-disciplinary artist takes a wide-angled view of music for healing in its many forms, whether it's traditional or modern, modishly avoiding any of the expected tropes in the process.
