I love playing in this band because it really, really swings. It is joyful. It has humor. And it is serious in the best possible way. Everyone brings it every time. Over the past five years, our robust concert seasons together have allowed us to develop a beautiful and compelling repertoire. It is an amazing experience to do this with a group of artists who just naturally click.

This recording came together when we performed before a live audience at the amazing Ravenscroft Center in Scottsdale, AZ. Upon arriving for our sound check, we learned that our live show could be recorded in both audio and three-camera video, so we went for it! It turned out so well that we felt compelled to release this album.

Leading this band for five years has allowed me to focus on doing what I love most: propelling the music forward with a deep time-feel, great bass lines, and irrepressible energy. I also step out front on a couple of tracks, but the album is really about this band; a band that reflects a deep understanding of jazz and its rich history. And it is a band, for sure!
