About

40 years ago, saxophonist Jon Gordon visited the 7th Ave South club in New York City and heard the Art Taylor Quartet with Clark Terry, Ron Carter and Branford Marsalis. It was the first live jazz he had ever heard in his life. The following Monday, he went to hear the Gil Evans Orchestra and met both Gil and David Sandborn. He was 16 years old at the time.

With the '7th Ave South' project Jon hopes to capture some of these moments to share with you. The project includes a new large ensemble recording featuring a combination of new compositions, re-imagined versions of his music and some of his favorites by other composers. The project will also include a series of interviews with the players on this project, some who also experienced growing up musically in the NYC jazz scene.

ArtistShare has a unique business model, with the artists retaining their intellectual property rights and receiving a far higher percentage of all income from the label, compared to traditional label deals. Each CD comes with a unique code that includes the complete ArtistShare Project Experience, granting the purchaser access to the creative process behind the making of the recording.

The ArtistShare Project Experience for '7th Ave South' includes:

Jon's video project update blog documenting the process of the recording project

Photo galleries from the studio sessions

Interviews with the players on the album and musicians from the Canadian Jazz scene
