AVID Easy presents the latest release in our Five Classic Albums Plus series with a remastered 2CD release from the legendary Ms. Doris Day complete with original artwork and liner notes.

Our latest addition to the Avid Easy catalogue features Ms. Doris Day, a woman perhaps unfairly, only remembered for her light comedy films with Rock Hudson in the 50s and 60s. Although in our defence we have featured Ms. Day before in our earlier Essential series (AVC858), where she is featured both with The Les Brown Band and in early solo performances. It’s still available in our catalogue, so don’t be shy! Doris Day was to start her professional performing career at the tender age of 16 when she joined the Les Brown Band as resident singer. Later she was to go on to greater success as a solo performer, both in music and of course at the movies. In fact as an actress and a singer Doris would always be somewhat under-rated which is actually crazy when you look at the wonderful films and albums she made over the course of her legendary career! As an actor she was much more than a foil for James Garner or Rock Hudson! She drove those wonderful movies to their phenomenal success, likewise in musicals like one of our featured titles Calamity Jane, she was just born to the role!. And of course alongside the likes of James Stewart she was also a serious actress of no little repute holding her own with the legendary misogynist Alfred Hitchcock. But here, we are now talking about Doris the voice. And what a voice! Instantly recognisable and instantly enjoyable and instantly flexible. Taking on ballads and jazz standards Doris was always at home with any tune. Our five album selection begins in 1949 with You’re My Thrill, then rushes into 1950 with Tea For Two with a curveball soundtrack in 1953 for Calamity Jane featuring of course Mr, Howard Keel, leap forward three years to 1956 for Day By Day and Doris is in the jazz company of Barney Kessel on guitar, Ted Nash on alto and tenor sax and Frank Flynn on vibes, and finally a year later in 1957 and again with Paul Weston we have big band swing with Day By Night.
