Cal Tjader fuses Afro-Cuban rhythms and mainstream jazz solos in his 1956 album Latin Kick. Alongside Tjader (vibraphone) the album also features Brew Moore (sax), Luis Miranda (congas), Bayardo Velarde (timbales), Manuel Duran (piano), and Carlos Duran (bass). This new edition of the album is released as part of the Original Jazz Classics Series with all-analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and presented in a Tip-On Jacket.

As legend has it, Tjader’s music has been sampled in more than 200 tracks. There’s a reason why. You’d have to try pretty hard to not feel a contact high while listening to effervescent tracks, such as his cha-cha take on Cole Porter’s “I Love Paris,” and an ironically carefree “Lover Come Back to Me,” a cover of the Oscar Hammerstein II song.
