About

Headed For Something is the debut release of Oslo-based guitarist Vetle Skåli. The album features Vetle’s band, Skaali Quartet, which consists of Amund Stenøien on vibraphone, Bendik Løland Lundsvoll on double bass and Steinar Heide Bø on drums.

The quartet was formed in the winter of 2022 with the purpose of rehearsing and recording the compositions of Vetle Skåli in Øra Studio, Trondheim. Given the band members similar musical references and inspirations, the music quickly took form and direction.

The music on Headed For Something is characterised by its distinctive tunes which are made up of strong melodies, harmonically rich chord-progressions, intricate forms and energetic improvisations. The unique blend of guitar and vibraphone during the composition's melodies are one of the key features of the quartet's sound which are backed up beautifully by Bendik’s syncopated bass lines and Steinar’s light and swingin’ touch on the drums.

The themes on the album deal with the choices you make as a human being, specifically the choices you make in your teens and early twenties that will define the rest of your life. “Headed For Something” is a statement that can come across as negative in its intent, but it really is meant as an optimistic take on the uncertainty of your own future. “Endings And Beginnings” is another theme on the album and this statement speaks for itself on several levels.
