They began with him an important part of Ornette Coleman’s pathbreaking quartet, and ended as he ventured deeply into the process of defining his distinctive approach to a world music. But the first six years plot a course of exploration and revelation that led to the crystallization of these two masterpieces, Complete Communion and Symphony for Improvisers.
