And while these conservatoire-trained players acknowledge the inevitable influence of their heroes, there’s not much that feels new in Angela, which is positioned as a dialogue between the electrified sounds of 1970s Brazil and contemporary beatmakers such as Yussef Kamaal, whose 2017 opus Black Focus paid homage to fusionists including Miles, Herbie and indeed, Azymuth.
