In some ways, RoundAgain feels like the perfect follow-up to MoodSwing, an album that could have arrived in the late '90s. Yet, it is hard to imagine Redman and his quartet summoning the same warmth and relaxed intensity that they do here without the decades of experience and deep familiarity they've cultivated with each other over the years.

The soloing is of a very high calibre as you’d expect, with McBride a notable contributor in particular. There’s certainly room for the band to grow and loosen up as a collective and we can only hope there’s not so long a wait until live touring comes back on the agenda. In the meantime Round Again works as a satisfying appetiser.

On song after song, the musicians pass ideas seamlessly, anticipate and respond engagingly, and maintain an infectious energy that makes the listener feel like there’s nothing beyond their abilities.
