"Pre-Choreographed" is the new album from Japanese pianist Koki Nakano through N Frmat! and the follow-up to his much-admired 2016 debut "Lift", also released on N Frmat! and created in collaboration with cellist Vincent Segal.

Trained at both Japan's prestigious Toho Gakuen music school and the Tokyo University of the Arts (alongside a sideline in electro-rock, via band Gas Law), Koki Nakano has long been exploring the deep relationship that his music maintains with dance. "When I compose, I keep images of bodies in a state of movement up in my head. They're a great help to me when it comes to structuring each of my pieces, which develop as if they were responding to those movements."

He now takes a giant leap forward with this new album. Its title "Pre-Choreographed" speaks to a re-alignment of music & dance and offers pieces that move between melodies with clear lines to fine cross-hatching, latticed textures and intoxicating harmonics.

Putting to use all the resources the piano has, in "Pre-Choreographed" Nakano has created an elegant album that knows how to say a lot with just the right economy of means.
