About
Weldon "Juke Boy" Bonner (1932-1978), a blues singer from Texas who played electric guitar and racked harmonica and wrote highly original, personal tales about his troubled life, was a great favourite among knowledgeable blues aficionados but never came to the attention of a broad audience like many of his contemporaries. After a few obscure singles he started his recording career in earnest in 1967, cutting his first album for Britain's Flyright label. This was followed by his finest period of recording, for the California based Arhoolie label. This CD is a compilation of 18 previously unissued Arhoolie recordings, 1967-1974, principally drawn from a strong session recorded in Houston, Texas in May 1969, at what might be termed the height of his all too brief career.
