About
A native of Finnish Samiland (aka Lapland, above the Artic Circle), Wimme Saari sings a modernist variation of yoik, the traditional Sami style of a cappella folk song, in which his voice - arching from a sweet falsetto to a grave baritone - is enriched by keyboards & rhythmic programming (Jari Kokkonen) and acoustic string instruments (Matti Wallenius). Surprises lurk around every corner, as does a constant sense of playfulness. Using electronics, an array of plucked string instruments and, most of all, Wimme's astonishing range of sounds, the trio create a wholly unique listening experience. There are also guest backup vocals by Tellu Turkka and Lisa Matveinen from the Finnish folk/rock group Hedningarna. Tracks: Njavvi (Torrent) / Inka / Gorzi (Waterfall) / Suhpi (Aspen) / Fadnu / Goalki (Calm) / Cearret (Artic Tern) / Kalkutta / Guoldu (Whirling Snow) / Boares Rieban (Old Fox) / Barru (Wave) / Durban / Dalki (Tempest).
