About
Lydia Mendoza (1916-2007) was a seminal figure in Mexican American music, acknowledged as the first Queen of Tejano and often called La Alondra de la Frontera (The Meadowlark of the Border) and La Cancionera de los Pobres (The Songstress of the Poor). This collection of her music is drawn from many of her 1930s recordings. In 1982, she was named a National Heritage Fellow by the National Endowment for the Arts. The liner notes contain the song lyrics in Spanish with English translations.
