Canadian pianist Davis has proved to be a prolific and consistently inventive artist in the past decade, whether leading her own groups or duetting with fellow pianists Craig Taborn and Benoit Delbecq. This is arguably one of Davis’ most ambitious offerings to date insofar as it offers a strikingly broad sonic palette and a rhythmic sensibility that has a distinct funkiness in places all the while retaining the skewed, off-centre phrasing that has made her work to date so interesting.

Combining electronics and jazz is no mean feat, but it is one that pianist Davis manages deftly with the help of producer Jeanty’s guttural soundscapes and record scratching. A thrillingly deep listen.
