About
Roland Kirk produced music that encompassed influences from the entire history of African-American music, from Louis Armstrong to John Coltrane, and later in his career he recorded songs by Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, and Bill Withers. His influence, immense upon Jazz music, was hugely felt in Rock music as well, with Jimi Hendrix, who hoped to collaborate with him, and Frank Zappa, being admirers. We present here some of Kirk's best early work including the whole of his 1961 album 'We Free Kings' which has been recognized as a Jazz classic.
