About

Repress of British saxophonist Peter King’s 2003 album ‘Footprints’, which has been unavailable for some time. Alto saxophonist Peter King has been at the forefront of the British jazz scene since the 1950s, when he debuted at Ronnie Scott’s in 1959 while still a teenager.

With a style firmly rooted in bebop, King’s stature as an artist has grown enormously since his days as a juvenile jazz phenomenon. In a hugely successful career, he has performed with Georgie Fame, Stan Tracey, John Dankworth, Tubby Hayes, Everything But The Girl and many others. ‘Footprints’ captures King and his quartet live at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in July and September 2002.

The classy line-up give inspired interpretations of classic jazz compositions by Wayne Shorter, Mal Waldron, McCoy tyner, Victor Feldman and Chick Corea as well as two originals by pianist Steve Melling.

Personnel: Peter King (alto saxophone), Steve Melling (piano), Jeremy Brown (bass), Stephen Keogh (drums), Arnie Somogyi (bass - 2,4,7)
